Walter Sisulu University (WSU) online application will be open for new and returning applicants for the 2026-2027 academic year from the 1st of June 2025. New applicants are to visit the official website of WSU to download the online aplication forms, fill them out by providing all the needed and required information and requirements and submit them before the aplication deadline. Applicants are to note that applications that will be submitted after the WSU application deadline will not be processed.

The minimum admission requirement to study in higher certificate courses is a National Senior Certificate with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution, as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council. Institutional and programme needs may require additional combinations of recognised NSC subjects and levels of achievement.

International applicants who are applying for admission to WSU 2026 must have completed their school-leaving (matric/Grade 12) qualifications outside of South Africa and are required to obtain a foreign exemption certificate from the Matriculation Board of South Africa in order to be considered for admission into an undergraduate programme.

WSU Online Application 2026-2027 Requirements

The following are the requirements needed when applying for admission to WSU for 2026:

Higher Certificate:

• The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution, as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council.
• Institutional and programme needs may require additional combinations of recognised NSC subjects and levels of achievement.

Diploma:

• The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution and an achievement rating of 3 (40-49%) or better for 4 recognised 20-credit subjects, excluding life orientation, as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council.
• Institutional and programme needs may require additional combinations of recognised NSC subjects and levels of achievement.

Bachelor’s Degree:

• The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution and an achievement rating of 4 (50-59%) or better for 4 recognised 20-credit subjects, excluding life orientation, as certified by Umalusi, the Quality Assurance Council.
• Institutional and programme needs may require additional combinations of recognised NSC subjects and levels of achievement.

Students with international school leaving results:

• Applications from students with international school leaving results are considered in terms of the “Higher Education South Africa (HESA) guideline document, ” A guide to application for exemption certificates”, and, where required, a submission of international qualification to SAQA for benchmarking in terms of HEQC.
• These students will be assisted by WSU’s international office

Other WSU Application Requirements Include:

• Students applying for Diploma programmes must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least a diploma endorsement.
• Students applying for Degree programmes must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a Bachelor’s endorsement.

WSU Online Application Requirements For International Applicants For 2026
