How Many Points Are Needed At The University Of Venda?
Applications are currently open for the study year 2026-2027 at the University of Venda from the 1st of April 2025 through to the 26th of September 2025. Aspiring applicants planning to study at the University of Venda (UNIVEN), one of the most important things to understand is the points system used for admission. Each course or qualification, whether it is a degree, diploma, or certificate, has its own minimum points requirement based on your National Senior Certificate (NSC) results.
In general, to qualify for a degree programme at UNIVEN, you need a minimum of 26 points along with a bachelor’s pass or matric exemption. You must also have a level 4 (50–59%) or higher in at least four recognised NSC 20-credit subjects. This ensures that you’re prepared for the academic demands of university-level study.
For those applying to a diploma programme, the requirement is slightly lower. You will need a minimum of level 3 (40–49%) in four recognised subjects. If you are aiming for a certificate course, you simply need to have an NSC certificate certified by Umalusi.
Applicants are to keep in mind that some programmes may have higher point requirements or need specific subjects. For example, science-based courses might require Mathematics or Physical Sciences at certain levels. Understanding how the UNIVEN point system works helps you know where you stand and which programmes you qualify for.
It also gives you a clear path as you plan your future studies. This guide will explain the point system in more detail and help you figure out the best way to meet the requirements for your chosen programme at the University of Venda.

Unless special permission is granted by the Senate, any modules taken outside the prescribed curriculum—also known as extra-curricular modules—will follow the same admission requirements as those within a formal degree or diploma programme.
Note:
- Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee a place in a programme. For most bachelor’s degrees at the University of Venda (UNIVEN), the minimum Admission Point Score (APS) is 26, although this may be reviewed by the Senate from time to time.
