The language of instruction at SPU is English. Therefore, both undergraduate and postgraduate courses as offered at SPU for 2026 require applicants to have achieved either English Home Language (HL) at National Senior Certificate (NSC) Level 4 or English First Additional Language (FAL) at NSC Level 5.

When calculating the Admission Points Score (APS), additional points are awarded for any official language taken as a Home Language. The minimum admission requirements are based on the results obtained in the South African NSC examinations. However, applicants with qualifications from other examination systems will be assessed individually for admission.
