Bachelor of Education (BEd) Intermediate phase (Grade 4–6):
This program is designed for prospective students who have completed Grade 12 with eligibility for degree studies and aspire to teach Languages, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Life Skills, and Social Sciences to learners in Grades 4 to 7.
Minimum Requirements:
- Admission follows the university’s general rules for degree studies.
- Applicants must hold a National Senior Certificate with a minimum Admission Points (AP) score of 30.
- The language of instruction is English, requiring a minimum achievement level of 4 (50%).

Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics Education:

- This programme is offered on a block-release basis, with sessions scheduled during school holidays and weekends during the school term.
Minimum Requirements:
The general admission rules of SPU for Postgraduate Diploma studies (aligned with the HEQSF) apply. Additionally:
- Admission is subject to departmental approval based on the recommendation of the School of Education Postgraduate Committee.
- Applicants must have completed Mathematics Education at Level 7 in their prior qualification.
- Eligible qualifications include:
- A four-year B.Ed. degree, OR
- A three-year Bachelor’s degree followed by a PGCE, OR
- An ADE in Mathematics Education.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be applied to students who do not meet the formal entry requirements.

Advanced Diploma in School Leadership and Management:
Period of Study: 2 Years (Part-time Only)
The Advanced Diploma in School Leadership and Management is an undergraduate qualification designed to equip school management teams (SMTs) with the necessary skills, knowledge, and values to lead and manage schools effectively. This programme focuses on preparing school leaders to navigate the evolving educational landscape, ensuring the delivery of quality learning and teaching in schools as complex learning organizations.
Minimum Requirements:
The general admission rules of SPU for the Advanced Diploma (aligned with the HEQSF) apply. Additionally, applicants must hold a recognized NQF Level 6 qualification, such as:
- A formal professional teaching qualification at REQV Level 14 or above (DBE, 2015).
- A four-year Bachelor of Education degree, or
- A general first degree or diploma, plus a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), or
- A former Higher Diploma in Education (Postgraduate) (NQF exit level 7).
- A former Advanced Certificate in Education (current NQF Level 6, formerly NQF Level 8), or
- A former Further Diploma in Education, a former four-year Higher Diploma in Education, or
- A new Advanced Certificate (current NQF Level 6, formerly NQF Level 10) following a former Diploma in Education (including the National Professional Diploma in Education – NPDE).
Additional Requirements:
- Students must have access to a computer device and internet connectivity (data/WiFi) for assignment submissions on Moodle.
Postgraduate Certificate in Education:
Period of Study: 1 Year (Full-time)
