NMU Residence Status Check 2026-2027
NMU Residence Status Check 2026-2027
For the academic year 2026-2027, Nelson Mandela University offers a variety of residences to support learners at different stages of their academic journey. This residence is spread across the Summerstrand North, South, Second Avenue, and George campuses. For senior undergraduate students and postgraduate students, there are also three dedicated senior residences and the postgraduate student village (PGSV) on the Summerstrand Campus.
Prospective students who are applying for admission for the 2026-2027 academic year at NMU must also apply for residence. Applicants who wish to apply for residence at NMU must apply for residence before the deadline. The deadline to apply for residence at NMU for the 2026 academic year is the 30th of September 2025. If you do not apply for residence before this deadline, you must search for an alternative off-campus.
A residence registration fee will ordinarily be debited to the students’ account and is payable every year of registration. Accommodation fees are determined annually and are payable in advance at the beginning of the respective semesters. Current fees are available on the Nelson Mandela University website. They are the same as in 2015. Despite the current “fees must fall climate, all applicants are advised to ensure that their fees are covered.
What To Know Before Applying For Residence At NMU
Before applying for residence for the 2026-2027 academic year at NMU, you must take note of the following:
- Applicants must first be accepted by the faculty before they can be considered for on-campus residences.
- The closing date for applying to the University is the 30th of September.
- Receipt of your application for on-campus residence will be acknowledged, but this does not guarantee a space in the residence.
- All first-year students are expected to share rooms.
- Applicants are grouped and selected within the same faculty so that common academic interests are shared and opportunities to learn from each other are created.
- Nelson Mandela University accepts no responsibility for a student’s personal property. Please ensure that you are insured against such eventualities.
- Priority will be given to applicants with a high Applicant Score (AS). In the case of several applicants having the same AS, the Quintile 1, 2 & 3 schools (no-fee schools) you come from will determine the applicant’s selection.
- Priority will be given to applicants living outside the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) for Port Elizabeth campuses and outside the George Municipality for the George Campus.
- Final acceptance into on-campus residence, for first years, will depend on your final examination results.
