High school graduates, returning students and international applicants who wish to further to a university in South Africa should consider NMU. The Nelson Mandela University is now open, inviting prospective students to apply for admission into any of the many courses and programmes. For the academic year 2026-2027, NMU is open from the 1st of April 2025 for both undergraduate, postgraduate and international applications. Applicants are to take note of the application deadline of their chosen course to avoid any delay or disappointment.

Applicants are to submit together with their online application form, a certified copy of their official academic record and certificate of conduct, as well as a certified copy of their school-leaving certificate. Should you be applying for module exemptions, download the module exemption form and complete it and note that there is a module exemption fee to be paid before the exemption can be processed.

Remember, places in some qualifications are limited, and it is therefore in your best interest to submit your online application and all supporting documentation timeously. Before completing an online application form, please take note of the Applicant Score (AS) and minimum pass % per subject requirements for the qualification you are applying for, or refer to the A-Z career webpage, faculty websites or faculty guides for additional information.

NMU Application Date 2026-2027

• The online applications for NMU postgraduate and undergraduate studies for 2026-2027 will be open on the 1st of April 2025.

NMU Application Deadline 2026-2027

• The online application for both undergraduate, postgraduate studies at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) will be closing on the 30th of September 2026. Remember, application dates for courses may differ, which is why early submission is encouraged.

Below are the NMU 2026 closing dates for the various courses offered:

• 30 June 2025 for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), & Bachelor of Radiography (BRad) applications.
• 01 August 2025 for early applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm & BRad).
• 30 September 2025 for late applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm & BRad).
• 30 September 2025 for international student applications.
• 30 September 2025 for ALL student housing applications.

NMU Application Fees For 2026-2027

• South African students applying for admission to the Nelson Mandela University for the 2026 academic year will not pay any application fees, but if you are an international applicant applying for NMU 2026, you will need to pay an application fee of R500.00.

NMU Application Requirements For 2026-2027

The following documents must be submitted together with your application forms during the application submission:

• A certified copy of your final Grade 11 exam results, or;
• A certified copy of your most recent Grade 12 (June/Sept) exam results (no March results), or
• A certified copy of your matriculation certificate/statement of results if you have already passed Grade 12/completed schooling,
• Certified copies of your diploma/degree certificates, plus academic record(s) and certificate(s) of conduct if you have studied elsewhere.
• A certified copy of your ID (birth certificate if still waiting for ID),
• A certified copy of the identity document of your parent/legal guardian/surety,
• Declaration by your parent / legal guardian/surety if you are a dependant, or currently at school, or studying at a tertiary institution, or have recently left school and do/will not have permanent employment when applying or studying at the University.
• If your Applicant Score (AS) and subject-specific % pass marks do not meet the direct entry requirements for your chosen programme, you will need to consider another qualification, as NMU no longer test applicants for admission.

  Decide what you want to study and check if you meet the admission requirements.
• Once you’ve chosen your program, complete and submit your application to the university.
• Wait for feedback to see if you’ve been accepted or selected for your chosen course.
• If admitted, proceed with registration to officially secure your place at the university.
